I have a little saying hanging on my wall that kind of answers what you said
above,

"Sometimes the Lord calms the storms, and sometimes He lets the storms rage
and calms His child"   

I have turned to this alot of times,  when you think about it, the storms may
leave a scar, but it's the great physician that heals those scars and makes
us able to keep on living for Him.
