Bro Deckard, (and all other H-F folks)
I was excited to read your message to us regarding the "punker" types,
particularly since i was at one time a rebellious skater-punk. Having
been raised (not sheltered or smothered, but raised) in the truth, I was
especially eager to "try out" what the world had to "offer". I was the
only other apostolic at my high school for my first 2 years so it was
easy to do what I wanted w/o the condemnation of a "Sis. goody-two-shoes"
to see what I was doing. I fell in with the "alternative bunch" we were
the artists and the musicians and the "weird people"(actually we were a
bunch of kids saying 'Someone Notice Me Please!!!'). I had long bangs
(longer than most apostolic girls........uh-oh...)
and i wore skeleton jewelry and spider rings and I had big old combat
boots and an earring (the earring only lasted an hour, I was a rebel, but
I knew my dad would kick my behind and rip off my ear if i came in with
an earring). I was tough......HAHAHAHAHA, I was begging for some
attention.

I am glad I went to Indiana Youth Convention in Muncie my junior year.
The Holy Ghost
really moved me....no i take that back........It molded me. I came home
from convention and I let my mom cut my bangs, She about had a Holy Ghost
Breakdown in front of me, and a woman with scissors in her hand, that's
about to lose control is NOT a comforting thing. I look back at my
rebellion period now and think, Man was I an Idoit. A complete and total
dolt. All my friends and I spouted about being "non-conformists"
what none of us realized then was that we are Always conforming to
Something, the Scripture tells us that there is nothing new under the
sun. So, even in our Nonconformity, we were conforming. I am now Happy to
say that I thoroughly enjoy, conforming to this Wonderful Gospel Message.

I said all that to say this. When you see an individual that looks scary,
(many earrings and piercings in various places, colored, and shaven
heads) all most of them want is to be noticed. If your safety is not in
jeapordy, I would challenge you to go up to them and say Hi. There is a
young man at a local McDonalds restaurant that is an odd looking fellow
(my father in law calls him Mr. McPierce, get it?) I have talked to him
several times and he is very open and receptive, now when I walk in we
joke back and forth. Soon i hope to invite him to church. Many times I
think we are guilty of wanting "normal-looking" people sitting in our
pews. I think it is time for us to all learn a little bit from the Spirit
and realize, Hey, We're Apostolics, Who Says We Gotta Be 'Normal'.

God Bless You,
Andy (Happy Little Jesus Nut) Barnett
