Agreed. Also, I would like to point out that "prophecy" is simply
th egiving forth of truths that were previously "mysteries". Anything
unknown to the human mind that is from God is a spiritual thing. And
without God's Spirit we cannot know these things (1 Cor 2:12). And when
anyone ministers these truths, these mysteries are "prophesied". That
does not only include knowledge of future events before they happen.
Preaching the truths of salvation is "prophesying".
The angel revealed to John the TRUE SAYINGS from God. John fell down
to worship the angel. The angel then responded telling him to
stop praising him, since the "spirit of prophecy is the testimony
of Jesus." Now, realize that this
was a response to John's reaction after the angel gave him the "true
syaings" of God. The "spirit of prophecy" is a manner of saying the reason
prophecy can be given at all - the reason the true sayings can be delivered.
the spirit of prophecy means the very breath-force of prophecy. It is the
reason prophecy occurs and exists. Prophecy is simply any revelation
of any truth at all concerning God which eye and ear cannot receive, and
requires God's Spirit teaching an individual in His unique way.
And the angel told John that the reason prophecy occurs is due to the
"testimony of Jesus." The fact that Christ died on the cross and was risen
again for our justification is the reason mankind can receive these
"prophecies" or utterings of truth and reality. And this takes
us back to the retrieving of the sealed scroll in Rev 5. The request
for John to "come and see" the "revelation" or "prophecy" was given after
Christ, the slain lamb, took the book when no man could take it beforehand.
So a paradign of the definition of "prophecy" must be dealt with. Prophecy
is not only the foretelling of future events.

Exactly.

When one understand salvation properly (Acts 2:38), and one lives the
christian life as the Bible teaches it and disagrees with
a pre- mid- or post-trib reasoning, whenever the rapture takes place, that
person will find him\herself going up too!
I think this is what Bro. Bassett is saying.
