I need some input on a Christmas present for the pastor

Hi everyone,=20
I just had a crazy idea for a Christmas present for my pastor....but it
might not be kosher, so I want your input on it. We have a problem that on
Sundays everybody comes to church (we run around 40 then)and on Tuesday and
Thursday noone ever comes (between 5 and 8 people, not including the
pastor). Last Tuesday I was so ashamed and embarassed about that fact, that
I was thinking that it might be a neat idea, if on Sundays I hand out
pledges....Everybody pledges to come on a regular basis each Tuesdays and
each Thursdays for at least 8 weeks (unless they are deathly ill or
working). Missing church will carry a penalty of $2 (with the money we get
together, we can buy a nice present for the pastor). What do you think? I
wonder if that would cheer him up a little and boost his moral. Surely he's
got to think we don't care about church, but we do. Besides, it is a cheap
present, that costs nothing but 2 hours extra on Tuesday and Thursday. (but
it can get expensive for those that choose to renick on their pledges). I
know it is nailing people down, forcing them to come to church....but so
what (Just recently we had a guest-preacher flat out asking people that
never come "What do you do for your church" and then he asked someone that
come every 2 weeks "What do you do for your church" and they answered
"making an 8 hour trip"...they live out of town, so it takes them 8 hours to
come to church, that's putting people on the spot too). Some might like
Tuesdays and Thursdays and decide to come longer than those 8 weeks. So if
you could give me your thoughts about this, I will also talk this over with
the few faithful that do come on Tuesdays and Thursdays. God bless. Doris
