I hear you, brother, loud and clear. God certainly does not need a
five-piece band, nor even an old organ to move.

I have noticed that many brothers and sisters tend to "hide" in the
music... What I mean is, they'll pray/worship louder if the music is
louder, and sometimes, not pray at all if there's no music. I interpret
this as music being some sort of cloaking device. It represents a prayer
closet of sorts. I guess this is somewhat needful in a church with no space
for prayer rooms!

But, back to the original topic...

Music does not save souls; it can, however lead a person to a more
emotional experience with God. Conversely, it can lead a person to a more
emotional experience with the musicians (ewwww! What is that drivel you're
playing!)

I always think of how David played to soothe the spirit of Saul. *This* is
one of my goals when I play for church.
