Deception

We had a visiting minister from our city speak at our church last night.
The message was really good. He gave examples of five men in the Bible who
fell from God and how they deceived themselves.

Cain - tried to please God in his own power and works. He brought of the
fruit of his labor and toil, while Able just quietly watched a lamb and
meditated.

Lot - thought the material blessings of God in his life signified that he
was right with God. Had one foot in the world "Sodom" and one with the
church "Abraham"

Sampson - had an unteachable spirit. He thought that since he was so
annointed no one could teach him or correct him. He wound up praying humbly
for the Lord's strength as he died.

David - thought he had arrived as king and did not have to stay in the work
of God where the Lord had placed him. He didn't want to go to battle and
fell into sin.

Judas - thought he could make his will into God's will. Was impatient for
the timing of God so he betrayed the Lord hoping to force Him to take over
politically.

Since the recent discussion on tongues being the sign of receiving and
staying full of the Holy Ghost, I thought this might bless you.

Lord Jesus, I pray that you will keep your church from deception.

God bless you today
-Rachel
