Michael,

Arius did *not* deny the Deity of Christ. He affirmed it, and like 
Justin Martyr and others he taught Jesus was a "deutoro theos" without 
realizing the "trinitarian problem" in this, ie: how many gods do we 
have?

The Arius/Athanasius debate was a quite interesting one, and *very* 
unlike what people today think they debated. Both of them would be 
deemed heretics by the church just a few centuries later.

(Bwt, "Arian" is a word for a "follower" of Arius)
