* Jesus said that he would come back within "this generation" - that
* generation that was listening to him. One generation can impossibly be
* stretched to mean 1900+ years.
I think that all Jesus said was that he comes quickly. He told the
women of Jerusalem that he shouldn't be wept for but them and their
children for them and their children. Which was the invasion of Jerusalem
by the Romans in AD 70.

* Jesus "came" and "waged war" in AD 70, when Jerusalem was destroyed as
* prophecied in Mat 24.
Jesus didn't personally come to wage war in AD 70. That was the Romans
(I think). In Zechariah 14 it's clear that the Lord is personally
making war with those that have been gathered to Jerusalem. He might not
have machine guns, but he still will make war.
2
For I will gather all nations against Jerusalem to battle; and
the city shall be taken, and the houses rifled, and the women
ravished; and half of the city shall go forth into captivity,
and the residue of the people shall not be cut off from the
city.
3
Then shall the LORD go forth, and fight against those nations,
as when he fought in the day of battle.
4
And his feet shall stand in that day upon the mount of Olives,
which is before Jerusalem on the east, and the mount of Olives
shall cleave in the midst thereof toward the east and toward
the west, and there shall be a very great valley; and half of
the mountain shall remove toward the north, and half of it
toward the south.
(When the angels said "This same Jesus will come in like
manner as he went" wasn't kidding. When he sets a foot upon
the Mt. of Olives, the mountain will split in two, half towards
the north and half towards the south and there will be a great
valley created by it.)
5
And ye shall flee to the valley of the mountains; for the
valley of the mountains shall reach unto Azal: yea, ye shall
flee, like as ye fled from before the earthquake in the days of
Uzziah king of Judah: and the LORD my God shall come, and all
the saints with thee.
(Wow! Even the saints (my guess, raptured saints!) are coming
with the Lord. See Revelation excerpt below)
8
And it shall be in that day, that living waters shall go out
from Jerusalem; half of them toward the former sea, and half of
them toward the hinder sea: in summer and in winter shall it
be.
(Waters will go out from Jerusalem in such a way thru the newly
made valley in such a way that the former sea (Mediteranean)
and the hider sea (Dead Sea) will be be connected by the
water in the valley, it almost describes a fountain of the deep)
9
And the LORD shall be king over all the earth: in that day
shall there be one LORD, and his name one.
(The Lord will have set up his millenial reign on earth)
12
And this shall be the plague wherewith the LORD will smite all
the people that have fought against Jerusalem; Their flesh
shall consume away while they stand upon their feet, and their
eyes shall consume away in their holes, and their tongue shall
consume away in their mouth.
13
And it shall come to pass in that day, that a great tumult from
the LORD shall be among them; and they shall lay hold every one
on the hand of his neighbour, and his hand shall rise up
against the hand of his neighbour.
I don't think that ANY of this has happened yet. The last time I checked,
the Mt. of Olives is still in one piece. The people of Jerusalem didn't
have their eyes and tongues melt from themseles. Jesus isn't in his
1000 year reign of peace. Jerusalem has been conquered several times
over the course of history. So far, not by the activities related to the
return of the Lord.
Revelation 19:
11
And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that
sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness
he doth judge and make war.
12
His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many
crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he
himself.
13
And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name
is called The Word of God.
14
And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white
horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean.
15
And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he
should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of
iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath
of Almighty God.
16
And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written,
KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.
I tell you what saints, if you've got a web browser, do all of your
scripture quoting (cutting and pasting) from the WWW Bible Gateway
(http://www.gospelcom.net/bible). It'll save YOU saints a lot of
typing, searching, hunting, and formatting.
