First of all, tithing was instituted before the law.
" And Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth bread and wine: and he was
the priest of the most high God. And he blessed him and said, Blessed be
Abram of the most high God, possessor of heaven and earth: and blessed
be the most high God, which hath delivered thine enemies into thy hand.
And he gave them tithes of all." Genesis 14:18-20 ( Also read Genesis
28:20-22)
And so obviously tithing was not just something people who were under the
law did.
Now Jesus is made a priest forever after the order of Melchizedek.
( Hebrews 6:20)
Hebrews 7:8 says " And here, men who die receive tithes."
Hebrews 7:12 " For the priesthood being changed, there is also made of
necessity a change in law." There is now a new priesthood. The Levites
are no longer priests before God.( Obviously, we are not under the law.
Since tithes were paid before the law it is not talking about tithes.)
Who are these new priests?
We are now kings and priests ( Both men and women.) " And had made us
kings and priests unto God and his Father..." Rev.1:6
1 Cor. 9: 13,14 specifically states that they which preach the gospel
should live of the gospel straightly comparing it with those who
ministered in the temple. " Do ye not know that they which minister about
holy things live of the things of the temple? And they which wait at the
altar are partakers of the alter? EVEN SO hath the *Lord ordained* that
they which preach of the Gospel should live of the gospel."
So this is straightforward. They that ministered about the holy things
were partakers of the altar and the Lord himself ordained that they which
preach the gospel should live of it.
How did the priests live of the altar? Through tithes.
