I have been doing a little study on tithes and offerings today and
yesterday.
The tithe actually belongs to the Lord.
30 And all the tithe of the land, [whether] of the seed of the land,
[or] of the fruit of the tree, [is] the LORD'S: [it is] holy unto the
LORD. 31 And if a man will at all redeem [ought] of his tithes, he
shall add thereto the fifth [part] thereof. 32 And concerning the
tithe of the herd, or of the flock, [even] of whatsoever passeth under
the rod, the tenth shall be holy unto the LORD. Lev. 27:30-32
It is scriptural for the ministry to have the tithe.
20 And the LORD spake unto Aaron, Thou shalt have no inheritance in
their land, neither shalt thou have any part among them: I [am] thy part
and thine inheritance among the children of Israel. 21 And, behold, I
have given the children of Levi all the tenth in Israel for an
inheritance, for their service which they serve, [even] the service of
the tabernacle of the congregation. Numbers 18:20-21
Here it says that the Levites were to receive the tithe for the service
which they did in the tabernacle of the congregation.
The wilderness tabernacle was built by freewill offerings, not tithes.
5 Take ye from among you an offering unto Jehovah; whosoever is of a
willing heart, let him bring it, Jehovah's offering: gold, and silver,
and brass, 6 and blue, and purple, and scarlet, and fine linen, and
goats' [hair], 7 and rams' skins dyed red, and sealskins, and acacia
wood, 8 and oil for the light, and spices for the anointing oil, and
for the sweet incense, 9 and onyx stones, and stones to be set, for the
ephod, and for the breastplate. Exodus 35:5-9
It is also a New Testament doctrine:
13 Know ye not that they that minister about sacred things eat [of]
the things of the temple, [and] they that wait upon the altar have their
portion with the altar? 14 Even so did the Lord ordain that they that
proclaim the gospel should live of the gospel .
1 Cor. 9:13-14
If a pastor has other hired help in the church, it would stand to reason
that since they are also ministering in one form or fashion that they
would also be paid out of the tithe.
I would recommend a book that I had read a while back and just now
refreshed my memory with. It is called The Lord's Portion by
Roy L. Moss put out by Word Aflame Publishers. It goes into quite a bit
of depth. ( My husband and I assisted Bro. Moss for 7 years and I would
state that he is very thorough.)
