Is this thread about divorce or remarriage? (curious)
I want to know if there are any specifics in the Bible concerning
remarriage. I think we all agree on the grounds for divorce (at least in
principle).
>From what I gather in the writings of Paul (and from a recent discussion
with a Jewish friend) there is room for debate. Paul says: No (seek not to
be bound). However, in the Jewish tradition, the ideal state of humanity is
married, not single. This is (in part) in order to obey (or at least make
the attempt to obey) the "be fruitful and multiply" commandment, which
cannot happen unless you are married. There are other good reasons why
marriage is ideal, but they do not apply to the discussion yet.
Anyway, someone suggested a Bible Study on the subject. I think I'll do
just that.

PS -- my friend is Orthodox, and she is of the tradition that any "two
becoming one" act counts as marriage to that person.
