Come on Tim!  His (Skip's) point was that the word "obey" was not in
Heb.13:17 and he blasted someone for using it.  I was merely
pointing out that the word *is* in the scripture! Please pay attention.

What?  You mean that you jusmped into the middle of a conversation in which
you were not directly involved?  <insert some *warm* fuzzy anacdote to
convey in a loving, meek, tender manner the fruits one reaps who says one
things and does another, without repenting>

Skip said that in the *original* text, the word was not obey:

peitho {pi'-tho}
1) persuade
1a) to persuade, i.e. to induce one by words to believe
1b) to make friends of, to win one's favour, gain one's good
will, or to seek to win one, strive to please one
1c) to tranquillise
1d) to persuade unto i.e. move or induce one to persuasion to
do something
2) be persuaded
2a) to be persuaded, to suffer one's self to be persuaded; to
be induced to believe: to have faith: in a thing
2a1) to believe
2a2) to be persuaded of a thing concerning a person
2b) to listen to, obey, yield to, comply with
3) to trust, have confidence, be confident

Now, why did they choose one of the most obscure meanings of this word,
which literally means "to persuade", or by verb tense "to be persuaded" and
ONLY gains that other meanings from context?

This verse to a Greek would read:

*Persuade those ahead of you and don't actively rebel, for they guard your
well being, like those who must return borrowed goods; in order that they
may do this with joy, and not with grief, since this would not be in your
best interest.*

BIG DIFFERENCE from what is in the KJV!!!  Besides, to RULE would require
one to exercise authority:

Matthew 20
25 But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Ye know that the princes of the
Gentiles exercise dominion over them, and they that are great exercise
authority upon them.

26 But it shall not be so among you: but whosoever will be great among you,
let him be your minister;

27 And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant:

28 Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister,
and to give his life a ransom for many.

Regardless, he brings up an excellent point; at what level would you
disobey, if at all?

You are right Brother, that is a point that we could discuss (the meaning
and
intent of this scripture) but it was not the point I was discussing.  Let's
start out by finding out if Tim is reading from the same bible that you and
I
are reading from.  I have asked him a simple yes or no question, let us see
if
he can answer it. Then we will continue to the next subject. :-)

As for reading from the same Bible, I don't really know.  MINE has the same
text, but yours seems to only have three of four verses in it...
