Bro Tim I felt the same way you did about this scripture.Daid Benard was
preaching at our church a few years ago,after a service nearly everyone had
left and I was locking the church up.I brought up this verse to him and I
asked him if he thought if it was annointed from God .He asked me a few
questions ,I guess to see if I was just looking to put down the word.When he
new I wasn't he told me he doubted that it was in the oringal text,but
healso
said God would never let anything be in the bible that would hurt or
disprove
truth.

Then he should turn from his hypocracy and become a trinitarian.  ;-)

This is only one of his many errors.  I cannot for the life of me see why
anyone considers him an authority on the Bible.

Before the "Oh, you went and blasphemed my hero." flames come in, I have
said all of these to him over the internet and he is aware of my views.  ;-)
I rebuked him for his 'stand' on remarrage.  He told me that he "knew what
the Bible said, but..."

The Apostoles WROTE the inerrant Word of God, read what they wrote and you
will have it.  ;-)

As for me:

2 Peter 1
17 For he received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came
such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in
whom I am well pleased.

18 And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him in
the holy mount.

19 We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye
take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn,
and the day star arise in your hearts:

20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private
interpretation.

21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of
God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

The Same Holy Ghost that showed Paul and Peter and Moses and all the rest
what to write lives in me.  I have a more sure Word than this Bible.  I have
a more sure Word that the signs and miracles.  I have a more sure Word than
if a voice called down from Heaven.  I have the Spirit of the Living God
leading me into ALL truth.  The bible will fail, the prophecies will fail,
all will fail, but my God will not fail......
