Jerry Welch responded:
Let me let YOU in on a little secret: There ARE Churches where the
Pastor has out and out told people who have to move for reasons of
jobs, etc., that THEIR Church is the only one where that person can get
to Heaven from.
And some people are intimidated enough to stay when they have been
called elsewhere because of these type tactics.
Robert McLaughlin observes:
I experienced this first hand at the church we attended during the
80's. When we decided to move back to Southern California the pastor
expressed his concern that we would attend a liberal church and
eventually lose our salvation. I got the distinct impression that he
thought all of the churches down here were "liberal."
It can't be underestimated the psychological power that the pastor has
over his followers.
"his followers", a purposeful choice of words.
