Mike B4:
...the programing on TV is destructive and not constructive. It is not
conducive to living a holy life.
Marlon:
Bro. Mike, I only have a little problem with your language. By that I
mean that you need to learn to add a few important words that many of us
Apostolic folks tend to leave out when instructing congregations. The first
line of your statement above should read "SOME OF the programming on TV is
destructive and not constructive...
Mike:
You are absolutely right. *Some* of the stuff at the dump is good too, but I
don't want to start a dump in my living room for the good stuff there may be
in the pile.
Marlon:
But as it stands it is largely a false statement. [the programing on TV is
destructive and not constructive]
Mike:
You can't be serious. That was a "largely false statement?" I don't know if
I should laugh or cry! Largely?
Marlon:
Many facts that would generally only be known by watching television have
brought
great revelation to God's people.
Mike:
Please name one. One fact I could only know by watching TV, never mind one
that might give me a "great revelation," just any fact will do.
Marlon:
Not to mention that some things are educational and not defiling to the eye.
Mike:
Oh. You must mean the nature shows that constantly fill ours kids minds full
of that evolution garbage.
Marlon:
...Not to mention that many Apostolic
churches have used television to the positive effort of saving souls and the
spreading of the gospel (quite effectively I might add),...
Mike:
I guess since your soul is already saved, you don't need a TV now.
Marlon:
...and encouragement of saints who are bedridden, etc
Mike:
Oh. I thought we were supposed to visit them. Good, we can now just send
them a TV and they can be encouraged by Geraldo and Donahue.
BTW. Please continue with the "etc." part.
Marlon:
And concerning its positive affect on your holy living, again the answer
must be that sometimes it can affect you positively toward holiness. It all
depends on what you are watching on TV.
Mike:
So you can remember the pit from which you were dug? I don't need a TV to
remind me of that.
Marlon:
The major question here is how much time do you spend with these things
as opposed to your time with God? What priority do they have in your life?
Mike:
I agree with your thoughts here. I have a great love for the outdoors. So
much so that I have at times past (I am ashamed to say) sacrificed my family
and church attendance to them.
Marlon:
I like pastors that say, be cautious about how much time you are spending
with the TV and about what you are watching.
Mike:
I liked what Bro. Fitzgerel said about controlling TV a few weeks ago. (I
am paraphrasing)
If you control your door knob, you won't have to control the TV knob.
Marlon:
...pastors should stop condemning
other churches to hell simply because they follow standards which are
different from their own.
Mike:
Should this apply to only the conservatives, or the liberals as well?
