I don't know about the UPC, but the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World
has a deaf ministry which is gaining strength. My home church has a "signer
in training" so to speak. And we have had deaf persons to attend our
services. There have been several PAW churches with very sizeable deaf
ministries. My pastor often tells me of a congregation that had many deaf
mutes who received the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking in other
toungues. Many of which, after they spoke in tongues, never spoke a word,
ever again.
To anyone that doubts that God will fill deaf people with the tongue
talking Holy Ghost. I would respond, "Don't limit our God. He can do
anything." On a very personal note, I have an uncle who is severely mentally
handicapped. Though he is nearly 60 years old, he is probably only at around
a first to third grade level as far as intelligence. But of all my uncles on
my mothers side (seven of them, all supposedly in good mental health) he is
the only one that had sense enough to receive the Holy Ghost. To complicate
it, he has no teeth (false teeth agitate him). But when he received the Holy
Ghost, he spoke fluently in another language. And everytime he sees
someone, no matter how many times he may have seen you before, he will tell
you, "I got the Holy Ghost." On top of that, he has great faith, and loves
the word and good choir singing. This is why I say, "God can do ANYTHING."
