Believe it or not- the pews are held together with just 8 penny finish
nails! They must have built them when the wood was green. years of
subjection to 90 degrees with high humidity and up to 20 below in the
winter have dried them throughly. We drain all the water midweek, so to
heat them to 70 means they go to zero in about three hours when the heat
is shut off between services. It completely cracked the sounding board on
a piano.

Yep, I feel your pain. The church is mentioned in a history for
Manchester that states "...many churches were built in 1890, ...
including the Swedish Baptists..." The architexture is amazing, like an
upside down boat, with no supporting poles in the entire building.
The pews in question are really bad, or we would save them for sure!
