H> This goes somewhat hand in hand with what John said in that
H>"I must decrease so that he may increase". John meant that the self
H>had to die and be replaced with Christ in him. We all must die out
H>to the world and the cares of this world or we will allow the devil
H>an avenue into our lives...
The written context would, however, imply that John was saying that he
needed to recede into the background, while Christ came into the
foreground. He was telling his diciples that Christ needed to be the
one to follow rather than himself. This says nothing about "dying out
to the world, and replace it with Christ." It simply meant that John
the Baptist had to step aside and let Christ take "center stage."
