You are both right. The key is where Paul says that "death works in us
so that life could work in you". Like Paul, we ought to allow the
death to self to launch us into ministry where our lives might be
given. Paul's missionary work is a fulfilment of his Holy Ghost
directed and Spirit-led life. This is not possible without a
foundation at the brazen altar.
