Chastening is not atonement. Chastening is not a payment for error,
but a correction to prevent further deviation.
>We are no longer under the law but under grace. Should not our children receive the same?
Children are of course, also under grace. As one gentleman has already
pointed out, Hebrews 12:5-13 vividly describes both chastening and its
position in our lives as we relate to God.

You are very fortunate, and you are to be commended for such an
effective personality. I'm sure you know parents with children of ver
different natures, also.

That is sadly true, Stan.

I'm sorry to hear this. My parents also "let me down" somewhat, so I
know what you mean. It does leave a hurt, but we are thankful to have
a God whose healing virtures do not neglect our emotions.

Both you and your wife should nevertheless honor your parents (or the
memory of them) in obedience to God. You don't know how fortunate you
are to be blessed with good natured children. Gopd is a healer and can
make all things right, in spite of our elder's errors.
