First of all I believe that those things written in 1 Corintians apply
to ALL churches, not just the church at Corinth.
1 Cor 1:2 Unto the church of God which is at Corinth, to them that are
sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with **ALL that in
_every place_ call upon the name of Jesus Christ** our Lord, both theirs
and ours
It seems that the CUSTOM of the Corinthian church was to be
contentious.
1 Cor 1: 10 Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus
Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions
among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and
in the same judgment. {divisions: Gr. schisms}
11 For it hath been * declared unto me* of you, my brethren, by them
which are of the house of Chloe, that there are_ contentions_ among you.
1 Cor 11:18 For first of all, when ye come together in the church, I
hear that there be divisions among you; and I partly believe it.
{divisions: or, schisms}
Concerning 1 Corinthians 11:16 Paul has no doubt that some
will want to be *contentious* about this matter also, as well as
his *authority as an apostle* because they have already shown
their tendency to do so. I believe the "we" spoken of in this verse
are the brethren at Ephesus that he is in the company of when
he is writing this epistle and he is saying "we" (the church at
Ephesus) along with the churches of God in general have no
custom of being contentious (a healthy church should have a spirit
of unity), especially when the matter is a teaching that has the
weight of an *apostle's* authority behind it.
1 Cor 16:8 But I will tarry at Ephesus until Pentecost.
1 Cor 16:19 The churches of Asia salute you. Aquila and Priscilla salute
you much in the Lord, with the church that is in their house.
20 All the brethren greet you. Greet ye one another with an holy kiss.
