blasphemy

Believe it or not, when I got into church, the first major trial I had to
overcome was fear that I had already blasphemed or that I would someday
blaspheme the Holy Ghost. My major weakness is that I worry a lot, and the
devil played on it.

I got a lot of advice while going through this *horrible* time in my life
(imagine wondering if you were eternally damned, and couln't change the
fact!!), I got a lot of advice and helpful information.

One thing that people told me repeatedly was that, in order to blaspheme the
Holy Ghost, you have to have it first, and then deny that it is real, not
only outwardly, but inwardly as well. For example, if a backslider would
tell someone that the Holy Ghost is not real, and that Pentecostals "fake"
the blessings we get, and mean it with all of their heart, they would have
blasphemed the Holy Ghost. It would have to be intentional and "heartfelt"
(for lack of a better word) in order to be blasphemy.

But you could *never* do it accidentally; I believe someone has to be
seriously deceived or VERY angry at God before they could ever do such a
thing. Probably the best way to explain it was already stated : "Anyone who
is worried that they have blasphemed the Holy Ghost, has not."

While being taught this by my pastor and others, I truly believed that God
was showing me what He meant by this.

Hope this helps -
