so, what, if anything, should be done about UPC spam?

Bro. Richard:
I've been getting more and more spam^Wemail lately from Apostolics peddling
their wares.
On the one hand, I'd like to do business with my brethren, and I'm not sure
I'd know anything about their services/products unless they email me.
OTOH, I really am anti-spam for a number of reasons.....
Me:
1. They may not be aware that they are spammers and you would be doing them
a favor to tell them about it.
2. They need to know that this annoys you so, um tell them about it.
3. The screening stuff only works so well but if you tell them about it,
they will usually stop.
If this doesn't work, your course is clear:
1Cor 6
7 Now therefore there is utterly a fault among you, because ye go to law
one with another. Why do ye not rather take wrong? why do ye not rather
suffer yourselves to be defrauded? (KJV)
I think a form letter along these lines (you can use this one if you would
like) would be in order.
Brothers,
I appreciate your efforts to inform me of the wonderful products and
services by which you maintain yourselves and contribute to the support of
God's work. I do indeed have a preference to do business with those of the
Household of faith but I would feel myself remiss if I did not call to your
attention the fact that, though I love to hear of these products and
services, the constant and "abundant" sending of e-mails is a real burden
upon my time and computer resourses. I, as I am sure you are also, am
quite engaged in the Lord's work with my every spare moment and would like
to continue to receive these updates but at a more manageble rate.
I thank you in advance for your co-operation in this matter and will of
course give serious consideration to the use of your services. To sum up,
it is not the content of the post that is causing me distress but the
frequency. I would be greatly saddened to have to resort to screening your
post and deleteing them sight unseen but as I have stated, time and
resourses would necessitate such action should this situation not be
resolved. I firmly believe that such action would be in no ones best
interest.
Thank you for your valuable time for which the Lord paid such a heavy
price!
Timothy Litteral
