I have a sign on my wall at work.  It simply reads:

Eschew Obfuscation

Many people have stared at the sign in puzzlement.  I translate 
it for them.

Avoid making things harder to understand than they are.

I think it is a good principle.  Also, I am a fan of irony.  :-)
