About those ties... [disclaimer!]

The story I shared about the tie controversy of years ago was certainly not
meant to argue against wearing ties, and most definitely not to prolong the
debate here about such matters. Responding to a comment about the supposed
necessity of wearing a tie in the pulpit, I simply thought it added some
interesting historical perspective to realize that many Holiness people of
past years felt the opposite -- that it was a matter of grave importance
that a tie never be worn. I enjoyed the story, and thought some others
might also.

Six years of heated argument, division, and diverted energy in a church
organization -- all over the wearing of neckties -- were brought to an end
with E.E. Byrun's simple but dramatic, wordless act, clearly illustrating
for those folks that harsh judgment on such matters was best left for oneself.
