>> Bro. Paterson feels that the trinity doctrine has been misrepresented
and misunderstood by Oneness Pentecostals.<<
Dr. Monika K. Hellwig prof of Theology At Georgetown University in her book
"Understanding Catholicism" 1981 had this to say about the Trinity
"...But much more prominently in that prayer the followers of Jesus
experiience the immanence of God in thetnder and comfortable intimacy of
Jesus with the Father.....Jesus is not simply an onlooker or one who
listens in to the divine conversations. He is within the conversation.
In his person he is the Wisdom of God.....Jesus is in his person the law
that proceeds from the Father as lawgiver but which the Father hinself
delightedly studies.....the Holy Spirit which is the very breath of God
that hovered over the chaos of uncreation and came especially to quicken
the human person in the creation and came again and again to arouse the
prophetic voice, the healing hand, the saving deed. As his followers
observe Jesus in conversation with the Father, that Spirit is at the same
time the bond between the two and a third in the conversation. The Spirit
is to continue the conversation and carry it further into the world,
transforming creation, when Jesus has returned to the Father.....But it is
also another partner in the divine conversation .......Gradually Christians
came to include the Spirit in their prayers in such a way that the
binitarian forms which linked Jesus to the Father in Christian worship gave
way more and more to trinitarian forms in speaking of God, naming Father,
Son and Holy Spirit."
Bro Hoggs(sp?), former National evang. for Church of God (one of the 5
headquartered in Cleveland TN) educated in their seminary school had this
to say about his Trinitarian teachings.
"God the Father had to have a Son, so he would know how to love"
"God the Father was unable to approach the sin in this world so he sent his
son Jesus, who was able to come here to die for us"
The common denominal church goers (including many of the local preachers)
don't know what their organization teaches. The people at the top know.
I don't think I missunderstand what they teach; I think the layity of their
churches missunderstand what they teach.
