You:
I thought about attempting this style this morning, but I already had my
hair up in a "roped bun-like style" before I read your post. Unfortunately,
it does not resemble any letter of the alphabet, as far as I can tell.

Me:
That's because you have never "really" looked at one of those things from
the back! The bun thing can be fashioned into one of these @ in a
heartbeat. ;-). I like those BTW.

 You:
I find your train of thought interesting. Do you feel that all, many, or
just some, of the Standards that we practice are merely Pastors exercising
their authority and/or rule over their congregations?

Me:
Just the ones that are man made so I'd have to go with "most," in many
cases. The ones you cannot find in the Bible in print or in intent is what
I think should be done away with. As to "authority."

Mark 10
42 But Jesus called them to him, and saith unto them, Ye know that they
which are accounted to rule over the Gentiles exercise lordship over them;
and their great ones exercise authority upon them.

43 But so shall it not be among you: but whosoever will be great among you,
shall be your minister:

44 And whosoever of you will be the chiefest, shall be servant of all.

You:
Do you
> feel that the purpose of Standards is to give the Pastor a "big stick"
to *beat* the Congregation into submission?

Me:
It is my opinion that this is what many "pastors" think it is. Without
much objections from the ones that "cut the muster."

You:
As I saw no "smiley faces" in your post, I am somewhat unclear as to what
your position on Standards is.

Me:
I wasn't kidding. I am for the standards found in the Bible, nothing more,
nothing less.

You:
> We all have our "version" of the truth, Bro. Tim. Proverbs 21:2 "Every
way of a man is right in his own eyes; but the Lord pondereth the hearts".

Me:
This was uncalled for. It is nice to finally see some Scripture though.

You:
> As for me, I still believe, and apply, the following to my life:
> Hebrews 13:7 "Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit
yourselves; for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account,
that they may do it with joy, and not with grief; for that is unprofitable
for you."

Me:
What has this verse to do with the "abuse" of this privilege? That was
what *I* was refering to. Me question is not one of WHETHER there are
those who are to defend the doctrine and LEAD by example, but one of where
ANYONE gets the AUTHORITY to make "rules" an enforce them as if they were
COMMANDMENTS to the point of deeming someone "unworthy" to preach MEERLY
based upon their appearance.

How do you reconcile this verse to the one I quoted above? There is no
conflict.

You:
> I will gladly submit myself! I thank God for a Pastor who watches for my
soul!! He once told me that "the road to Heaven has two ditches on each
side; one on the left and one on the right. It is the Pastor's job to help
us stay on the road without falling into either ditch. There is *always* a
danger of becoming too liberal, or too extreme. What condemns one, does
not necessary condemn another. BUT "Even in our diversity we should all
seek the same position" (on our knees!) Thank God for the Holy Ghost that
leads us into *all
> Truth* (if we listen with an honest heart!).

Me:
This is all good stuff, really, it is. Does this man have room for
improvement? Does he do EVERYTHING 100% by the Bible?
Why is it that when someone tells a Oneness Pentecostal that they need to
check the Scripture and change things to get BACK to the Bible, all this
other JUNK about standards floats to the top.

Does your pastor sit the repentant down in church upon their confession?
Where did he get this authority? Read Matthew 18:15-22. Who established
this beard thing? Where did they get their authority? All I am saying is
that there are some things that are really done Wrong. A thirty year old
mistake made be a fine praying man who has sacrificed his life for the
flock is still a mistake.

You spoke of honest prayer Sis. Do this for me, in love. Ask God if I am
wrong. Ask Him to show you what it is that I am trying to say here. He'll
tell you. This is a call to tighten up our walk in the Lord for those who
can recieve it!
