I have no problem at saying that God sent his son to die.  It is Bible
after all -- John 3:16 comes immediately to mind.

  "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that
  whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting
  life."

Yes, but Luke 22:42 shows that he didn't want to, and is a beautiful
example of submission:

  "...Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless
  not my will, but thine, be done."
