I think it would be fair to say that the Church never sanctions
hypocrisy. Of course there will be hypocrites in the Church, why would
one be a hypocrite in the world? (What I am saying is that if one is in
the world one would hardly pretend to be bad when in fact one is good.)
There are certainly principles in the Scripture that apply to allowing
known sinners to fellowship with the Church. Consider 1 Cor 5:1-13.
(1 Corinthians 5:9,11 KJV) "I wrote unto you in an epistle not to
company with fornicators: ... But now I have written unto you
not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a
fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a railer, or a drunkard,
or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat."
I am not implying that by default trinitarians are sinners. But I am
pointing out that the Church is not fellowship with those who are known
to be sinners.
However, there is at least one principle in Scripture which may apply to
the situation of people in the pulpit who do not officially represent the
Church.
(1 Thessalonians 5:22 KJV) "Abstain from all appearance of evil."
Here is the caution that it may be wise to be prudent in who is given
room in the pulpit. To argue for the 'sanctity' or sacredness of the pulpit
may be vain, but the fact remains that the pulpit is a visible focus of
what the Church is all about. It is natural to assume that what one
sees or hears from someone in the pulpit is the representation of the
Church as a whole.
Do we allow others of other faiths in our churches in order to be allowed
equal time in their pulpits? Could God accomplish this in another way?
(IOW, could God get apostolic preachers into non-apostolic pulpits
without having to have them reciprocate?)
