Being a single mother, I have rather strong feelings regarding
this issue. When I married, I expected to stay at home with my children just
as my mother had. However, I did not know that God had other plans for me.
I lost my husband five years ago. I had no other choice but to return to
work. I had to choose between work and welfare. I bring to reference the
scripture that my Grandpa always used to quote about those who do not work
should not eat. The Bible says to let the church take care of the widows,
but what if the widows can take care of themselves?
In response to the question of the Proverbial Paragon, she made
sure that her familys needs were met and was still able to balance her own
business on the side. Maybe in those days, like now, as my daughter says
"two salaries are better than one". Some women have to work to supplement
their husbands income. Their families couldn't make it any other way. I see
no shame in working outside of the home. God has blessed me with a wonderful
employer, and an interesting job. I'm not saying that I wouldn't rather be
at home, I would. But if you have to work, you might as well thank God for
his blessings, pray and witness to your boss and his family.
