You know.... I think there's a big mis-understanding here.
I'm pretty sure I'm the one targeted here as I'm sure I'm the
moderator that's wrote the most along the lines of what is being
termed "holiness bashing."
Let me say this .... I have two distinctly different viewpoints on
holiness standards (HS) ... good and bad.
1) HS are GOOD, in my opinion, if they are taught in a manner that
draws the saint closer to God and out of the love for God they
gladly do it (otherwise God will make them most miserable as he
convicts them with the Holy Ghost to do what's right).
2) HS are BAD, in my opinion, if taught in a manner that only
cookie-cutter apostolics are made. There's little or no discipling
of the new saint. Ya just give them a set of rules and then say...
"O.k. Bro Rudolph ... it's up to you now ... you either live by
the rules or else face the consequences." Then HS are used as a
matter to police the saints to keep them all in line via a method
that employs shame.
To me, it all depends on how the HS is applied and the motivation
behind it. NEVER have I said in a broadstroke of the keyboard that
HS are completely bad. Never, ever, ever. There are good applications
to HS.
To me, when people do the HS as described in #2 they do it as a *duty*
to the local assembly and not unto God. Which is ... by the very definition
of "holiness" ... completely wrong no matter how holy the standard that is
being practiced. If a woman wears a skirt down to her ankles because the
minister says so and that's good enough for her ... that's fine with me.
Just don't expect everybody to take that particular ministers suggestion
without knowing *why* it should be a particular way. If the minister says
"Bless the Lord ... all shall do ________ or ___________ because that's
what the word says" and he doesn't back it up to the point of finding the
different amens built into the word that'll check the standards validity,
I would hope that people are smart enough not to do it out of blind obedience
-or- wait until they can research it themselves and ask God what he thinks
about the subject matter. Depending on what they discover, then act on it
accordingly. I'd *hate* to be a lemming in a flock that is absolutely
blindly obedient.
Holiness isn't a "dress code" that identifies a particular assembly the
same way that everybody at a local country club wears matching blazers,
patches, and uniforms.
Holiness is "being separate unto God." Which goes a lot deeper than how
you dress.

it's all in the motus operandi" Tyler
