WHY HAVE A DEAF MINISTRY?
(EDITED FOR A LECTURE BY PASTOR OLEN ADAMS)
Some churches do not have a deaf ministry because it is:
DIFFICULT- People must learn Sign Language and the culture of deaf people. It
is
comparable to being a foreign missionary. This ministry requires much time
and effort. It is not
easy.
DISCOURAGING-There is much work involved and at times little results. It is
an
unique ministry to an overlooked people in your city. It can be a
discouraging ministry and
many quit.
DEMANDING-Deaf people need someone to become their ears and voice to the
hearing
world. This demands much time and love to represent the two worlds of deaf
and hearing.
Much is required. There will be many demanding times of sacrifice.
DISAPPOINTING-There will be times that no one will care or understand your
burden
for the deaf ministry. Even pastors have stated, Is it really worth it?
There will be disappointments.
DELIGHTFUL-A deaf ministry is an unique ministry requiring the learning of a
language and people. Interpreting and teaching deaf people the Bible and the
joy of seeing them receive the holy ghost and speaking in that heavenly
language is worth it all. Reaching those
who are overlooked. This is the joy of a deaf ministry.
