For me, "reasonable repair" means it is cheaper to purchase a better
vehicle in *KNOWN* better shape than it is to repair the one I already
have and already know just exactly what kind of shape it is in.
For this reason, I have replaced engine and transmission in my car
rather than go buy a different car.
The real reason many people buy a new car instead of fixing the one
they already have is they can trade the broken one they have for a
down payment on the new one, and they can finance the new one. It
takes cash to pay for repairs, and many people are seriously short of
cash, so they succumb to the modern form of economic exploitation
known as "easy monthly payments".
I have been there and done that, and with God's continued blessing on
my financial situation, I hope I do not have to do it again. Thank
God I am not making any "easy monthly payments" now.
