me: I made this comment, but was not comparing the Bible College
graduate to MY Pastor, just a few that I have heard preach that had only
an 8th grade education. My Pastor graduated from high school,
and worked in the oil and gas fields for many years before the Lord
called him into the ministry. He never attended college.
His insight into the Word of God has come from much prayer, fasting
and YEARS of reading the Bible from cover to cover. Sure, he
mispronounces some big words, from time to time, but his preaching
encourages me, chastises me, strengthens me, causes me to
examine my heart AND my life, etc. etc. He preaches the Word of
God from his heart and it comes across loud and clear.
One of the best "credentials" a Pastor can have is NOT a 4 - year
college degree, but a BURDEN for his people AND the lost.
He must be willing to fall on his face and seek God's will for each
service. He should love the people he ministers to MORE than himself.
If he has a 4-year college degree, or bible college education,
that's just icing on the proverbial cake.
I hope I don't come off sounding as if I am against higher education,
bible college or other. I pray my daughter, and future son-in-law
(many years still down the road :-D) will both be fortunate enough to
attend college. Knowledge gained can NEVER be taken away.
As a banker, I know and appreciate the value of higher education.
Been there, done that myself!
The point I want to make is that education is a KEY to success,
but it is just ONE of many keys. I know many college educated "idiots",
as I am sure many of you do, and I know many fine people with great
minds who, for some reason or another, never had the opportunity for
higher education. Sometimes we are ALL guilty (myself definitely included)
of trying to paint everyone with the same broad brush.
"Nuff" said.
