I agree with a lot of what Bro. Tyler said. I really don't think he is
against educated preachers; but the problem arises when preachers let that
higher education go to their heads. And of course, there is a problem with
ministers that abuse the funds, especially when there is a need in the church.
It seems as though there is a "spirit" that comes along with having a lot of
money and material things. Some won't let it puff them up and some will.
Even Jesus Christ Himself said it is easier for a camel to fit through the eye
of a needle than for a rich man to enter into the Kingdom. Not to say he
can't enter in, but it is more difficult because of the attitude that often
comes with being rich.
I see preachers all the time that are in no way 'swayed' by the Spirit. That
is what Bro. Tyler was speaking of (I believe) that some get in that pulpit
and put on this pious attitude and everything is focused on him instead of on
the Lord. I see too many get caught up into titles and positions and there is
no love or compassion for souls and the needs of the people. They are not in
tune with the Spirit at all and it shows. Enough time spent under this type
of ministry and the congregation becomes bound and can't worship and praise
unless "signaled" by this pastor. He should be flexible and able to bend FOR
THE SPIRIT OF GOD; not with every wind of doctrine, but by the Holy Ghost.
And it is very, very true that a lot of preachers and saints as well do not
have a close relationship with the Lord. They become just as religious as the
scribes and pharisees. Their churches are dead and the people are no more
moved by the Spirit than their leader. It's sad. It's on a very personal
level for me and I see it everytime we visit this particular church. But,
when the come to our church and my husband/pastor is in the pulpit; there is
such a freedom that comes over these people.
I believe in education and so does my husband/pastor; but it does not cause us
to try and interpret or project the Word of God through that intellect. A
college education helps you in the natural (getting a good job or whatever);
but can not touch the spiritual. Can't interpret or understand the Word of
God or the things of the Spirit but by the Holy Ghost who is the BEST teacher
one could EVER have.
