Note that the first author started with godly people, and then added
to them the academic credentials, not the other way around.  You are
right in saying that man's wisdom pales in comparison to what God
shows us.

But worldly men will listen to someone with credentials they can
relate to -- credentials awarded by a worldly system.  If an already
godly man carries these credentials with him also, then more doors
will be open to him, and more will hear the gosple.  This is exactly
what the apostle Paul did!
