me: My daughter's pediatrician once told me " throw away
all those books you have been reading on parenting, most of
the "experts" have never had children of their own!!!". Same goes
for pre-marital counseling. Many (not all) of the counselors have failed
( or failing) marriages, multiple marriages/divorces, relationships on the
side, etc. (you get my drift). I wouldn't recommend counseling
UNLESS the counselor was Apostolic.
IMO, some of the best advice on marriage can be found
in Ephesians 5:22-33.
22 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the
Lord.
25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church,
and gave himself for it;
Read it in it's entirety and commit it to your heart!!!
This passage of scripture will help you lay a strong foundation
upon which to build a happy marriage. If you both are Holy Ghost
filled and baptized in Jesus Name (which I am assuming you are
since you are on this list) you already possess one of the most
important keys to a successful marriage.
I really thought my husband and I had a *great* marriage. We
loved each other and considered each others feelings (most of the
time). After seven years of marriage, things really changed in
our lives and we began to experience a new depth in our love, and
marital relationship, that I would have never dreamed possible.
What happened you ask???
I went to an Apostolic church service, repented of my sins, was
filled with the Holy Ghost and got baptized in Jesus Name.
My husband came back to the Lord six months later and
was refilled with the Holy Ghost after 17 years in a backslidden
state. This life altering experience happened almost 6 years
ago and we have been living for the Lord ever since.
Do we have the "perfect" marriage? Probably not, but it's pretty
close. It's hard NOT to love each other when you're filled with the Holy
Ghost!! The Holy Ghost will never let you be unkind to your spouse
(not for LONG anyway :-D).
I encourage you both to stay where you need to be with the Lord in
your prayer life and daily walk, to follow his principles as stated in the
Word, and to be each other's best friend.
Don't be afraid to take the plunge!!
Come on in, the water's fine!!!
