I'm not sure if your response was to me (Sis. Cherie) or one of the other
replies. But I think you may have misunderstood. I'm not saying I don't
believe in paying tithes; I pay my tithes and offering faithfully. But I have
run into some who feel it is no longer necessary. They feel that the
scriptures in Hebrews chapters 7 and 8 are an indication that now that Jesus
is that high priest; and we are now under grace, that there was a change in
the law and that we are no longer obligated to follow the law of paying
tithes. (see Heb. 7:11,12) I myself have no problem giving tithes and
offerings because I realize the church and the shepard have to be supported;
esp. being the wife of a psstor :o) I am one of those who would rather do
something and be told later when I get to Glory that it wasn't really
necessary than to not do something and have to stand before the Lord and be
told that I should have. But I can somewhat see where they may have tried to
go with this. The opposing view is that according to old testament law,
tithes went to the priest and offerings were for the House of God. That is
the way a lot of churches teach; tithing goes to the pastor to support him and
his family and offerings are for the upkeep of the church. They feel that the
only thing we should be doing is giving free-will offerings to support the
church and that we are no longer obligated to tithe 10% to the pastor. I
think they need to realize that it won't work if people give only $1 or $5
here and there for an offering. I know that if it weren't for tithes and we
relied solely on offerings, our church would not survive. I just wanted some
input on this issue so I could see if anyone else may have had this same view
or could at least see why they might feel this way. Anytime someone has an
opposing view or belief to mine; I like to look at both sides so I can better
witness to them of the truth. I try and understand why those who feel baptism
in Jesus' name is no different from baptism in the the name of the Father and
of the Son and of the Holy Ghost. That way, when I present the scriptures
proving the truth to them, I don't seem so one-sided. I think people recieve
you better when you say, "I can understand why you would feel this way, but
let me show you this..." as opposed to, "You're wrong, I'm right and this is
how it is!" That's just me. :o)

But, anyway, I have read all of the comments posted so far, and I really
appreciate all of the responses to my posting. I ask that each of you pray
for those out there who have this view, that they will see their error and
correct it.
