Tithing

Here are some "reasons" (no scriptural backup needed in this case) for
tithing today. I'm sure these examples are common to many churches.
1. A nice piece of property with a building on it used for the gathering of
the saints. This building may contain a sanctuary, fellowship hall,
classrooms, offices and maybe even a gym.
2. Utilities to support this building, including a telephone system and
it's associated bill. I won't even venture a guess as to what the average
church spends a month in utility costs.
3. Furnishings, decor, and other trimmings.
4. A paid, full time pastor given work benefits like the rest of us expect.
i.e., vacations.
5. If the church is large enough a paid staff to support the pastor. (At
the least a secretary.)
6. Support for various outreach ministries. Missions, Prisons, Nursing Home,
Home Bible Study, Bus Ministry, etc.
7. Instruments.
8. Computers and office equipment.
9. Hymnals and Sunday School supplies.
10. Maintainence, repair and replacement costs for all these things.
Of course the list goes on and on but the point is none of these things are
free and few are cheap. I know for a fact that while in a temporary
facility our church's monthly note for rent was over $3,000! I'm no
accountant but I'm pretty sure that if tithing were made "optional" that
this one bill would not have been paid one time even with everyone pitching
in their traditional dollar every time the plate was passed. Simply put the
money we tithe is used to support the church. I don't know about anyone
else but I easily contributed 10 per cent of my total income to the cause
of Satan in some way or another when he ruled my life. Jesus deserves at
least as much, no? Besides it's a tried and PROVEN principle- you can't
outgive God. No way, no how! If you don't believe it, you haven't tried it.
God has been good to me!

P.S. Don't forget, we are the New Testament church.
