hmmm...this could be the start of a long thread and I think that a can-o-worms may
have been opened.

I once read a paper that made that connection. But I remember that the first
converts laid their posessions at the Apositles feet, that a couple died for
withholding what was due the Lord. Paul wrote a little on what seems to be
tithing:

1 Cor 16:1 Now concerning the collection for the saints, as I have given order to
the churches of Galatia, even so do ye.
1 Cor 16:2 Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in
store, as God hath prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come.

To often we assume that the lack of mention of something is a justification for
the denial of it. How often have we told someone that tongues was present at every
infilling of the Holy Ghost in the Bible, how every baptism was in the Name of the
Lord Jesus Christ, just because Luke got tired of recording the same thing and it
was common knowledge is no reason ta assume that it was not there, same with
tithing. The lack of mention seems to more indicate the continuance rather than
the discontinuance.

I personally feel that Heb 7 & 8 are more dealing with the imperfect Levitical
priesthood rather than the subject of tithing.

2 Cor 9:6 But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and
he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully.
2 Cor 9:7 Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not
grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.

Tithing may not be required to get into heaven, but it is (IMHO) a part of the
walk. It is proof that you have not a love of money and that the Lord has all of
you (even the checkbook).
