George Rimel writes:
 Matt. 16:18
...that thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church....
While Jesus Christ is the chief cornerstone {the one all other
measurements are taken from - the most important], Peter is the
keystone {the one which ties all the others in place}.
I write:
Are you saying that Peter is the rock upon which the church is built.
Having lived in Roman Catholic countries and having heard their chief
arguments in favor of Peter being that Rock and having heard that he
has the keys etc. and saying that is why Peter is the first pope, I
cannot agree. Again Jesus Christ is the Petra, the Rock upon which
we are to built,, he is building his church upon himself. I don't
want to be built upon a man, a fallible man. Of course Rome to
counter that argument of the fallible man says that the pope is
infallible. In Matthew chapter 16:23 Jesus said to Peter {But he
turned , and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan, thou art an
offense unto me: thou savourest not the things that be of God, but
those that be of men.} Are we founded on a man who was called Satan
by Jesus Christ, or are we founded on the Rock, Jesus Christ the
Lord. It was Peter who denied Jesus Christ three times, yes Peter was
forgiven but we sure see his human nature with the mistakes that
human nature makes, but Jesus Christ is perfect, the solid Rock,
Petra, on which I stand all other ground is sinking sand. As to the
gospel , it is the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ,
there is no other gospel. As to the keys, Rome also uses that to say
that Peter as the Pope has the keys to heaven, Jesus has the keys,
Revelation 1:18 {I am he that liveth: and , behold, I am alive for
evermore. Amen, and have the keys of hell and of death.}Salvation is
not in the Name of Peter, it is in the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Jesus Christ is the door, and the shepherd and the saviour, etc.
Peter is just one more of the many men that God has used through the
centuries, just as Paul was and others back then and now. Petros is
not Petra, Peter is not the Petra in that verse, he is a small rock
or stone, Jesus Christ is the huge Rock, Petra, solid unchanging,
unmovable, the Rock of Ages.
