This is how the list is set up (which isn't any different than
most any other list).

When anybody on the list receives a piece of e-mail (distribution)
from another list member, it'll be actually sent by:

              owner-higher-fire@prairienet.org

With a default "Reply-To:" (which is the e-mail address that the e-mail
client will automagically fill in the return address) to the Higher-Fire
list at:

              higher-fire@prairienet.org

When something is sent to "higher-fire@prairienet.org", us moderators receive
an approval/discard message asking us to approve the post for distribution
or discard it so that nobody will get a copy of it. Since this is a private
(closed) list that's archived on the WWW, we are to assume that anything that
goes through higher-fire@prairienet.org is normally not considered private by
any means and the *sender* is giving his o.k. for the whole world to see it
by sending it to the lists address above.

What does this all mean?

Basically, if anybody gets a message sent by the above owner address,
rest assured that if you press the *reply* button, the piece of e-mail
you are about to send doesn't go to the individual that sent the piece
of e-mail alone, but to everybody on the list (because of the default
"Reply-to:" address set above).

In order to reply to someone privately, you have to *manually* enter the
persons e-address into your e-mail client software (if it's not automatically
captured) in the "To:", "Cc:", or "Bcc:" field in order for them to get
a private copy. All the while keeping your eyes on the other e-address
fields making sure that the list address (higher-fire@prairienet.org) isn't
shown in the "To:", "Cc:", or "Bcc:" fields.

It all comes down to thinking a piece of e-mail was *private* to an
individual when all along, there wasn't any manual re-addressing of
the e-mail reply to the individual. By hitting the REPLY button, and
not changing who the message is going to, it'll automatically go back to
the entire list membership for everyone to enjoy.

In the welcome document that everyone receives, this very subject is covered
as to what the list e-address is and how it works. Maybe not in the specific
detail that I've outlined. But it is briefly covered.

>>To contribute to discussion, just send mail to:

                 higher-fire@prairienet.org

If you would like to comment on a previous post, just use the "reply"
feature of your email software -- the response will be posted to the
list.<<

As to unsubscribing, you can decide that on your own. I can do it
for you, or you can follow the instructions in the signature file
at the end of this message. Or you can continue to hang-out in this
huge fellowship hall known as Higher-Fire. It's all up to you.
