Me:

I have always embraced a belief that when our Lord responded to Peter's words of
Matthew 16:16 ("Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God"), His use of the
word "rock" was made in reference to Peter having been given of God a
"revelation" of His true identity (which is to say, the invisible eternal
Spirit's habitation of human flesh). Is not a "revelation" of the Oneness of God
the foundation upon which the glorious New Testament Church has been built? Is
not this glorious "revelation" the most important element upon which every
doctrine of the "true" Church has its foundation? Subsequent statements by Peter
annul any suggestion that he was aware of the death, burial, and resurrection of
our Lord at that moment in which he acknowledged that he had become a recipient
of this wondrous "revelation" from God (see Matthew 16:22).

As always, just my 2 cents worth :)
