Our 6 month old cat, Tigger, likes to stand to his full length, extend
claws upon the surface of the door (or wall, or curtain), then "slide" both
paws to the floor at once. "Shwunk, shwunk, shwunk" over and over (Yes, at
two in the morning). :) A water gun solved the problem within days with our
older cat, Licorice, but Tigger *likes* water. He sticks his head in the
shower and jumps up on the edge of the tub when you take a regular bath to
play with the bubbles and water. And he just sat there and *let* us give
him his flea dip (Licorice whined and fussed all thru his). We've resorted
to "repellent" (natural) sprays to deter him from anything but approved
scratching surfaces!

I guess cats are like kids, no two are exactly alike.
