Just wanted to let you all know how our church fared
during our FIRST Bible Quiz competition. If you will remember,
Bible Quizzing is a new ministry for our church.
We didn't have a CLUE as to how to even begin a Bible
Quiz Ministry, but with the help of the WV Bible Quiz
Co-ordinator, Sis Helen Fairburn, and many of my
dear brothers and sisters on Higher-Fire ( Sis Wendy
Horn, Bro. Glenn, Bro. Brian, Sis Kathy, Bro. Bunch,
Bro. Brown, and so many others) we decided to
"Go For It".
Our kids went to the competition yesterday (Saturday)
after only three weeks of study and practice sessions.
We had only received a portion of our materials from
the Youth Division and our buzzer system was on back
order. These kids didn't even know what a buzzer system
looked like or how it worked. We taped a piece of
duct tape on the table in front of them a drew a buzzer
button in the middle with black magic marker.
There were 5 Junior teams and 10 Senior teams
registered in the competition. Our Junior team placed Third
and received a trophy!!! My 10 year old daughter, Melissa,
was high scorer in two of the three rounds we competed in.
She received blue ribbons for those rounds. We registered
2 Senior teams from our church. Both teams drew seasoned
bible quiz teams for their first round. As our teams haven't
mastered the technique of "interrupting a question" yet,
they were somewhat overwhelmed by the speed in which
the other teams went for the buzzer. They were soundly
trounced, but not overly discouraged. One of our Senior
quizzers received a red ribbon for 2nd highest scorer in
a round. I am REALLY proud of them for hanging in there.
The kids all had a great time and came away from the
tournament motivated to study harder so that they can
do better the next time.
I give God the Glory, honor and Praise!! Bible quizzing
is a LOT of hard work for everyone involved, but it is worth
every sacrifice. It is some of the most rewarding work
I have ever done for the Lord with the exception of winning
souls through Home Bible study. I now understand what
some of you meant when you said "Bible Quizzing is my
heartbeat". I thank God that He has chosen me to head
this special ministry in our church, and pray that those of us
involved will be able to make a REAL difference in the
lives of our kids.
