I know this will not be the last word on the subject of Holiness but it will
be my last post concerning this thread.
The posts that were made by Jan, I found challenged me once again to
reexamine the position I have held since coming into the church. Jan is not
only intelligent, and well versed, but also articulate.
As we progressed into the discussion there was something that was always
present in his rebuttals or ascertions. A lack of faith in the inspiration
of the scriptures. If indeed the scriptures can be looked at in a purely
historic and logistic setting, then there would be no need for the gospel
message to be proclaimed.
I am sure you noted the nature of our posts.
I am not a theologian, nor scholar by any standard, just a truth seeker with
anchors in some fundamental foundations that keep me from shipwreck. If
reexamining my position becomes somehow detrimental to my faith then I have
fallen into a state of being religious and not having a relationship.
The problem that we all face is that we are dealing with an inspired book,
not a secular book, concerned with the heart and actions of man.
The bottom line? Freedom in Christ is not to be equated with license.
Freedom implies the absence of hinderances, or restraints. License implies
freedom that consists in violating the usual rules by consent or abuse of
liberty.
Although this position is not my forte, I do not want to leave it without
leaving the inpression that there is no conclusion to the argument in favor
of the plain intent of the word. So if any would like to continue the
discussion feel free to post it!
