This is part one of 2 posts that I split in order to make easier to
read.  I pray I do not offend anyone in these but will only cause you
to think about what has been going on the last few weeks.

Consider these scriptures since they are the references that I will
use in this post:

Eze. 36:26 "A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I
put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your
flesh, and I will give you a heart of flesh."

Titus 3:5 "Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but
according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration,
and renewing of the Holy Ghost."

Romans 3:20 "Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh
be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin."

Ep. 2:8 "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of
yourselves: it is the gift of God:"

Ep. 2:9 "Not of works, least any man should boast."

James 4:17 " therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it
not, to him it is sin."

Is. 65:5 " Which say, stand by thyself, come not near to me; for I am
holier than thou.  These are a smoke in my nose, and fire that
burneth all the day."

Matt. 23:33 "Who unto you, scribes and Pharisees...for ye pay tithe
of mint...and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, Judgment
Mercy, and FAIth:  These ought ye to have done, and not to leave the
other undone."

I Tim. 1:9  "Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling,
not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and
grace which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began."

II Tim. 3:5 "Having a form of godliness but denying the power
thereof: from such turn away."
I Peter 1:16 "Because it is written be ye holy for I am holy."
 Paul 1.  Also Paul did say "show me your faith without your works
and I will show you my faith by my works."  I just can't find the
reference right now.

Looking at these scriptures I have began to wonder about some of our
people in the oneness movement.  They always harp on things such as
the exact length of mens hair (an extreme example), beards, women
wearing wedding bands etc..etc..  they forget that it isn't just the
standard that will get us to heaven (I Tim. 1:9), but a combination
of both faith and works. (Paul 1).  Yes the mainline christian
churches are right that it is faith that will save us (Ep. 2:8) but
they do forget that works do come in (James 4:17).  It is just
sometimes we focus too much on the works and forget the faith.  (Is.
65:5; Matt 23:33).
