Dear Jan,

it has been my experience that every backslider I have known has cut her
hair first. I have also heard that other people had that same experience.
However, this is not the issue. The issue is not cutting hair or not, the
issue is obedience to the Word of God. You are saying, that I am following a
"jungle of unbiblical laws", that is not true. The bible clearly states,
that it is an abomination to the Lord if a woman wears man's clothing (I
would not want to be an abomination in God's sight, would you?). It also
states that the hair is the woman's glory and covering and therefore should
not be shaven or shorn. Matter of fact, my German bible tells me if it is a
shame for a woman to be shaven then her hair should not be cut either. (It
does mention cut!!!). If we have problems following the least of His
commandments (cause it seems to me that long hair, no jewelry, no makeup
etc. is a big issue for some) how can we be obedient to the big ones? If we
tear out the pages of the bible where it says not to wear pants, not to cut
hair...., why not tear out the one where it says baptize in Jesus name,
don't lie, don't steal? Nobody takes issue with the ten commandments. Bible
says obedience is better then sacrifice and to harken better than the fat of
rams. I love the Lord and my obedience comes out of my love for Him and His
Word. Why should I rebell against it by saying "I will cut my hair, cause I
do not see a logical reason I shouldn't"? Our thoughts are not his thoughts
and His ways differ from ours. We are a peculiar people set aside for His
glory, and believe me, people do notice the difference. My daughters are
known in school as the girls who never wear pants. I am proud of that, cause
that tells me, that my girls love the Lord and want to live according to His
rules, not ours. Yes, the bible says works without faith is dead. But the
bible also says "I will show you my faith through my works". Holiness is
faith put into action. Bible also says "follow peace and holiness, without
which no man shall see God". Well, as for me and my house, I will follow the
Lord and the holiness that He has institued in His Word. No questions asked
on my part whether I like them or not. I will do it.

One thought on the side. Considering, that we are talking about our eternity
and where we will spend it, would we not be on the safer side to be obedient
to every dot of His Word. Even though in the end we will be saved by His
grace, I rather make sure that I did not displease God in anything so He can
tell me "Enter in thou good and faithful servant". Above all things, I want
to see my Lord and be with Him and I am willing to do everything He says.

I hope you have taken no offense, I have told you what I believe and my
view, which I will not waver upon. If I have been out of line as far as the
tone of this mail is concerned, please forgive me. Doris
