About ex-Jehovah's Witnesses the True Believers (tm) would say that the 
first thing they do is grow a beard, go to university, etc. Some of 
them will also start smoking, beimg immoral, etc. JWs will then blame 
the fact that they started doing these small violation of rules, 
instead of realizing that it was this jungle of unbiblical laws that 
was the problem in the first place.

When a person discovers that Christianity comes through faith not 
works, it's quite natural to change behaviour.

Reading Paul's letter to the Romans is highly recommended.
