Idolatry in the Bible

The question:

This topic is, of course, addressed in Romans 1.

At the same time, I pray to the Lord that I not forget where I came
from -- that I too was once spiritually blind and would still be were
it not for the grace of our Lord.

Let us not look down on the sinner as if we are somehow superior to
them -- we stand in high places not by our own merits, but only by
the mercy of God.  Let us not have the attitude of the pharisee who
pointed to the publican beside him, saying "Thank you Lord I'm not
like him!" but instead be like the humble publican "Lord have mercy
on me!"

This isn't really a rebuke directed at anyone, but is more of a
reminder for us all -- especially myself, for I'm quite prone to
being guilty of religious pride.
